Bee-ginners Beekeeping class
The MCC Beekeeping class is set up to coincide with the beekeeping year. The class will start about the time you need to buy your hives and packages of bees. The class will provide you with credible vendors to use while purchasing your hives and bees and will spend one of the classes helping you build the hives. The MCC Beekeeping class is almost 100% hands on. We provide full bee suits for students to use while working in the MCC apiary. When it is time to put your packages of bees in their hives, the class will do a demonstration at the MCC apiary so you know exactly what to do at home. During the summer classes, we will do thorough hive inspections, learn how to treat for Mites and other pests, and what to do if your Queen Bee dies. In the fall, you will harvest the MCC honey and get to take a delicious jar of honey home to enjoy during the winter months. Also during this time, you will learn how to winterize your bees and prepare them for the colder months. The best part about the class is it allows you to learn how to manage your personal beehives by first working with the beehives at the MCC apiary. The instructor, Jim Ford, is always around for questions and is also willing to take a look at your hives if you think their is a serious problem.
classes are offered in the continuing education coursebook, under culinary arts. |
